Debbie Lan
Rosendale-area resident Debbie Lan is a tireless booster of children’s music in the Hudson Valley, leading her band Grenadilla, whose songs are inspired by the kwela music of her South African birthplace, and appearing with “kindie” group Dog on Fleas. Lan also founded and directs the vocal ensembles Bloom and the B2s, both of whom will perform this Sunday at a benefit concert for her new pop opera, “On a Midsummer’s Night.”
A musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Night Dream,” Lan’s production is composed of 60 pieces of music and features 12 local actors and singers. Sunday’s program will begin with members of the cast performing a sampling of songs from “On a Midsummer’s Night” followed by the B2s and Bloom.
Here's Lan and Grenadilla live at the Clearwater festival in 2010:
The “On a Midsummer’s Night” benefit concert will take place on June 11 at 2pm at High Meadow School in Stone Ridge, New York. Admission is $15; $5 for children; children age 4 and under are free.
