Just because the New Year ushers in way past bedtime doesn’t mean families need leave the little ones out of New Year’s Eve celebrations. There are plenty of parties and opportunities to ring in 2018, family-style.

New Year’s at Noon hosted by the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum at 75 North Water Street in Poughkeepsie from 9:30a-12:30p. It’s the biggest party of the year with pop music, dancing, and surprises every hour on the countdown to noon. $10 per person MHCM Members, $14 per person non-members. This event will sell out, so grab tickets in advance using the “Find Ticket” link on Facebook.

Children’s New Year’s Eve Party hosted by Hyde Park Roller Magic at 4178 Albany Post Road in Hyde Park from 12p-3p. Add some noise makers, games, prizes, and a photo booth to your skating. There’s a balloon drop finale countdown. Admission is $7; skate rental is $2 quads/$4 blades; non-skating adults are free. See Facebook for more.

Family New Year’s Eve Party hosted by Wood’n Wheel at 365 Broadway, Route 9W in Ulster Park from 12-3:30p. Annual fun for the whole family with hats, horns, novelties, games, prizes, refreshments, and a grand finale balloon drop. Admission is $11; skate rental is $3.50. Arcade games are available a la carte. Learn more on the Facebook event.

New Year’s Eve Dance + Dinner hosted by the Ashokan Center at 477 Beaverkill Road in Olivebridge from 6p on. Ring in the New Year with dinner, live music, and dancing at the family-friendliest spot around. Two dance halls will feature swing, Cajun, waltzing, contras, and squares beginning at 8p, followed by late night Zydeco. Family-style dinner starts at 6p with options for vegan and gluten-free eaters. Make it a sleepover! Overnight bunk and breakfast packages are available.

If you’re not in the party mood, but want to make the New Year meaningful for kids and teens, try the Water Ceremony at the River hosted by The Dreaming Goddess at the Poughkeepsie Waterfront from 10-10:30a. It’s the final circle of the year and this will be a Water Prayer Ceremony, where people can send out prayers for a better world for all. The event is weather permitting, so check the Facebook page before you go.

Make it a weekend with events before and after New Year’s Eve in Kingston.

Preparing for 2018! Tarot Readings with Silvia Forni hosted by Anahata at 35 North Front Street, Floor 2, in Kingston on Saturday, December 30th from 1-4p. Become more aligned with heart and soul desires, and get clear about goals, wishes, and dreams for 2018. What is it you want to release or manifest this year? 20 minutes for $20. Book by emailing and receive a coupon for a discounted reading in 2018.

Day 1 Walk on Monday, January 1 from 1-4p. Start the year walking together, seeing each other as fellow human beings. It’s not a march, or a rally, or a protest. It’s just a chance to walk, get to know each other, and start the year from a unified place. The walk starts at Dietz Stadium at 170 North Front Street in Kingston, and travels two miles downtown to the Riverport Wooden Boat School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum at 50 Rondout Landing in Kingston, where there will be hot beverages.
