In light of the evolving novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Columbia County, Hudson Hall has announced the postponement of the Hudson Jazz Festival™ live media broadcasts. Scheduled to take place November 14, 21, 28 and December 4 and 12, the festival concert line-up will be rescheduled for the spring of 2021, with new performance dates to be announced. The festival’s visual arts component, Art & Soul, curated by Reginald Madison, opens as planned November 13-December 20 with free, timed-entry reservations (see details below).

The decision to postpone the festival was made following consultations with Hudson Hall’s Board of Directors, curator Cat Henry, Hudson Jazz Festival musicians, staff and technical consultants, and in response to the spike in COVID-19 infections and impact of interstate and regional travel at this time.

New spring 2021 dates for the festival will be announced and posted on Hudson Hall’s website (www.hudsonhall.org). Tickets will be valid for the 2021 festival. Ticket holders may request a full refund or convert the value of their ticket to a Hudson Hall gift certificate or tax deductible donation by contacting [email protected] or by phone at (518) 822-1438.

“In light of the surge in COVID-19 cases in our region, Hudson Hall will postpone the Hudson Jazz Festival live media broadcasts planned this fall to the spring of 2021. Our first consideration must be for the health and well-being of our staff, the musicians involved and our wider community” says Hudson Hall Executive Director, Tambra Dillon. “However, we invite visitors to make a timed entry reservation to experience the work of 6 incredible local artists in our first floor galleries, as well as enjoy listening to and learning about the Coltranes and their influences in beautifully styled, socially-distanced listening ‘pods’ in our grand performance hall.”

The 2020/2021 Hudson Jazz Festival celebrates the enduring vision of Alice and John Coltrane, whose relationship and creative output symbolize artistic achievement and Black excellence. The festival features Live from Hudson Hall streamed music, free exhibitions, film, talks, and events to engage and enrich our community. The original announcement can be found here.

For artist and curator Reginald Madison, music and the creative process are inextricably connected. “Music always inspires me,” he says. “I would be totally lost without it.” In this special Hudson Jazz Festival group exhibition, Madison has invited his friends and neighbors to contribute their own visual solos. Each piece chosen is a riff on their own body of work, which together sing a song of an artistic community inextricably connected in a time of global anxiety and collective isolation.
