As the Denizen Theatre celebrates closing night of their run of “White Rabbit Red Rabbit” — a show that celebrates the connections between actor, audience, and (absent) writer—
DENIZEN Theatre Gallery is celebrating their current exhibit “A Picture Paints a Thousand Words” this Saturday, August 3rd from 6 to 7pm.This curated exhibit highlights 13 skilled local visual artists who were given a canvas and paint, donated by Blick Art, a single word from the play “White Rabbit Red Rabbit” (Freedom or Conformity), and had only two hours to paint in response to that word. Just like in the script, the actors have no idea what words they will be given to express.
In the spirit of artists helping artists and supporting their local charitable communities, proceeds from paintings sold at this celebration will be split between the visual artists and supporting the Shawangunk Ridge-based Wild Earth’s continued work of creating “transformative nature immersion experiences that cultivate character, confidence, passion, and perseverance in New York’s youth."

Blessed are the "Meek"
Then, the theatre will see the U.S. premiere—Denizen's first—of Penelope Skinner’s “Meek,” directed by Kelly Kitchens.
Exploring “freedom of expression, overzealous authority, and truth in action,” the play follows three female-identifying actors through the story of an alternative society “where private lives become political and the freedom of expression is not an option.”
Starring Aidan Koehler, Brittany Proia, and Crystal Tweed, “Meek” will play at the DENIZEN from August 7 to September 1, with 8pm shows Wednesday through Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm.
They’ll also have post-show talkbacks with the actors every Wednesday, “pay-what-you-can” Wednesdays on August 7 and 14, and post-show panel discussions on Thursdays (August 15 and 22).
