Festival Season: 4 Upcoming Events at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds | Festivals | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine

After a nearly event-less summer last year, festivals, fairs, and shows are back in full force this summer. On the outskirts of the photogenic Village of Rhinebeck, the Dutchess County Fairgrounds is host to some of the region's biggest cultural and tourism draws. From the state's second largest county fair to a breathtaking hot air balloon fest, here are five upcoming events not to miss at the DC Fairgrounds.

Rhinebeck Craft Festival | June 26-27

The Rhinebeck Crafts Festival is a not-to-miss Hudson Valley shopping event. With an exceptional mix of 150 up-and-coming and experienced artists, the two-day fair is a short walk from the fine dining and other attractions of downtown Rhinebeck and remains one of the region’s most anticipated yearly events. There will be interactive kids’ and family activities, mouthwatering gourmet foods, and three local distilleries in attendance. Items for sale include handmade furniture, art, clothing, and more. General admission is $10.

Dutchess Fair | August 24-29

Launched in 1842, the Dutchess Fair has a storied legacy. Over the years, it has grown into a six-day blowout that has earned its place as the second largest fair in all of New York. The fun includes blue ribbon competitions for livestock, crops, recipes, and fine arts, as well as historic exhibits, concessions and food, and a marketplace, plus live music nationally recognized pop, rock, and country stars. This year marks the 175th anniversary of the fair, with tickets going on sale in June. General admission is $15.

Hudson Valley Food & Wine Festival | September 11-12

Enjoy an autumn day out at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds during the Hudson Valley Food & Wine Festival, sampling wines from dozens of wineries all over the state, craft beer, cider, and spirits. Shop for gourmet foods from more than 100 creative specialty food vendors. Discover fine crafts and home goods. Feast from unique selections available in the Food Truck Corral. Expand your culinary skills and wine knowledge at cooking demonstrations and wine seminars. Bring your friends! Vendors selling home improvement & accessories, gift items, jewelry, and cooking tools round out the fun.

New York State Sheep & Wool Festival | October 6-7

This may well be the largest event held annually at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. Since 1980, the Sheep & Wool Festival has drawn thousands of fiber enthusiasts from a huge radius for two days of shearing demonstrations, knitting and spinning competitions, a llama parade, yarn vendors galore, 4H competitions, and much more. Round up the family for a lively, outdoor celebration of all things sheep. Learn to herd and shear, then, see how craft guilds spin, weave, dye, and knit wool into soft, colorful creations, before hitting the vendor stalls to shop from local artisans. After an all-virtual 2020 event, even the scaled back hybrid event planned for this October will be a welcome return to normalcy.
