August 20. The Hudson Valley's longest-running jazz festival, Jazz in the Valley, marks its 17th year when it returns this month to Waryas Park, in the shadow of the majestic Walkway Over the Hudson. In addition to perennial festival favorite saxophonist Javon Jackson, the headliners for 2017 include trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan, pianist Elio Villafranca, pianist and vocalist Mala Waldron, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, drummers Jimmy Cobb and Jeff "Siege" Siegel, and percussionist Neil Clarke. The New Groove, Poughkeepsie Funk, and the Dutchess Community College Alumni Jazz Combo will perform on the free second stage at nearby Upper Landing Park. Noon. $50, $60 ($20 students with ID).
