Tickets on Sale for Big Thief at UPAC | Music | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine
Last weekend the Ulster County Performing Arts Center (UPAC) once again scored yet another stellar coup when the theater announced that tickets are now on sale for a July 19 appearance by revered indie rock band Big Thief.

Based in Brooklyn, Big Thief is centered around core members Adrienne Lenker (vocals, guitar) and Buck Meek (guitar) and rounded out by Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums). Singer-songwriter Lenker had a nomadic childhood in Minnesota and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship sponsored by Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. In 2013, while living in Boston, she met Meek and the two began performing together before eventually recruiting fellow Berklee students Oleartchik and Krivchenia into the project.

Masterpiece, Big Thief’s debut album, appeared in 2016 and swiftly won plaudits from key arbiters like Bob Boilen of NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” and Pitchfork Media. The followup, Capacity, made number one on Boilen’s list of the top albums of 2017 and number two on Spin’s Top 50 Albums of 2017. In 2019, two more albums followed: U.F.O.F. and Two Hands, the former gaining a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album.

Big Thief’s newest release is the double album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You. Here’s a performance of the title track at Levon Helm Studios:

Big Thief will perform at UPAC in Kingston on July 19 at 8pm. Tickets are $54.90.
