You know that things are definitely looking up when one of the most beloved Hudson Valley family events, the annual Tivoli Street Painting Festival, makes its return. And that’s just what will happen on September 24 when the colorful festival comes back to the Dutchess County town.
For the festival, participants are invited to let their imaginations soar through chalk on one of the 94 eight-inch-by-eight-inch squares that will be painted for the event along Broadway through the town. The event, which is free and open to all, is funded by donations from local businesses and private donors. Artists can register (either on the day of the event or through preregistration) to receive free boxes of pastels and choose their square on a first-come, first-choice basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Live folk and bluegrass music will help to keep the mood lively. Returning participants have remarked about how much they love the quiet, low-key character of the festival, its inclusiveness, and the way it celebrates the artistic commitment of this Hudson Valley town.
The Tivoli Street Painting Festival will take place in Tivoli on September 24 from 10am to 3pm. For more information, visit the festival’s Facebook page.
