Within the City of Poughkeepsie, there’s a 527-acre farm and ecological preserve where locals can tend a plot in the community garden or pick up a share of vegetables from the Poughkeepsie Farm Project. It’s used by Vassar College, the highly selective, coeducational, independent, residential liberal arts college founded in 1861. Vassar Rugby and Cross Country teams practice here, and Vassar scientists use the Field Station and Ecological Preserve. And on Sunday, September 17th, it’s open for people to run through.

The Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve will host a 5K Fun Run and Environmental Fair, from 11:30a-1:30p, and it’s free and open to the public. The Fun Run will begin promptly at 12:15p, while the fair will feature coloring and plant pressing activities for families, tours of the farm, selections from Vassar’s natural history and Earth Science collections, and an exhibition of native wildlife photography in The Collaboratory, Vassar’s mobile exhibition space. Hudson Valley environmental organizations like the Waterman Bird Club, Solarize the Hudson, and Dutchess Land Conservancy, will be tabling.

Fall 5K Fun Run and Environmental Fair at Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve, 50 Vassar Farm Lane in Poughkeepsie (the entrance is across from the light at the intersection of Route 376, Hooker Avenue, and Raymond Avenue): Sunday, September 17th, 2017; 11:30a-1:30p; free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to support the Farm and Preserve.
