Now here’s an intriguing offering. Co-sponsored by the Olana Partnership and WGXC’s Wave Farm, “Framing the Viewshed: Groundswell” takes place this month on the historic grounds of painter Frederic Church’s Olana estate and features site-specific works in sound, text, installation, and movement.
For the four-hour event over a dozen artists will “reflect on and react to Olana as an ambitious and early environmental work” as the audience members “explore the property’s undiscovered roads and naturalistic scenes as they encounter each project site.” Featured artists include DJ Spooky, Pauline Oliveros, Japanther, eteam, robbinschilds, Bobby Previte, Maximilian Goldfarb, Greg Fox, Nadja Verena Marcin, David Kermani, Archie Rand, Nancy Shaver, Beth Schneck, and Cara Turett.
And of course telling you about this happening is also a fine excuse to post a reliably amazing video by Kingston avant icon Pauline Oliveros. So here goes:
“Framing the Viewshed: Groundswell” will be held on September 22 from 2 to 6pm at the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, NY. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. For more information, visit www.groundswell.brownpapertickets.com.
