Yarn/Wire Premieres New Work in Troy on Friday | Daily Dose | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine
EMPAC’s programming is consistently interesting, and this Friday’s performance by New York-based piano/percussion quartet Yarn/Wire continues the thread. Made up of percussionists Ian Antonio and Russell Greenberg and pianists Laura Barger and Ning Yu, the group has been praised by for its “spellbinding virtuosity” TimeOut NY and the New York Times for their “mesmerizing” performances, energy, and precision. With individual backgrounds in classical and rock music and avant-garde theater, the group “is dedicated to expanding the repertoire written for its instrumentation, through commissions and collaborative initiatives that aim to build a new and lasting body of work.” For the EMPAC concert, the quartet will present the world premiere of Enno Poppe’s Feld and an earlier work cowritten by the German composer, Tonband. Here’s a short video about a 2015 Yarn/Wire performance of Sufjan Stevens’s soundtrack to the film Round-Up: Yarn/Wire will perform at EMPAC in Troy, New York, on September 22 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $6 to $18. For more information, call (518) 276-3921 or visit http://empac.rpi.edu/.
