Microcredentials: Bite-Sized Learning for Job-Readiness at SUNY Ulster | Sponsored | Adult Ed-Continuing | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine

How do we stay ahead of the opportunity curve in a world where many of the opportunities weren’t even on the table 15 years ago? The buzzword is “upskilling”—getting a solid grounding in something a lot of people want done. At SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, educators track the latest industry trends and interface with local business leaders to find out what they need, then develop classes to teach you marketable skills. Many employers expect current and prospective employees to continually seek out learning and growth opportunities. Micro-credentials, short, affordable programs, offer professionals a way to add specific skills to their resumes that make them more competitive, earn promotions, or find a better job.

Accounting Computer Skills gets you up to speed with Microsoft Quickbooks and Excel along with the principles of basic bookkeeping. The Computer Game Design, Mobile Application Developer, and Web Application Developer tracks take you from basic programming skills to job-readiness.

A new microcredential being rolled out at SUNY Ulster will certify students in customer service, culminating in a paid internship at Mohonk Mountain House, which is bound to be a resume booster in the Hudson Valley’s blossoming hospitality and tourism industry.

SUNY Ulster has built a powerful, user-friendly array of services and facilities designed to simplify life and enhance learning for people of all ages and situations. AdultEDge also offers internships in a vast variety of fields and plenty of help charting a course forward and figuring out how to finance the journey.
