If you haven’t shopped at Sunflower Natural Foods Market in Woodstock lately, you’re in for a treat. They’re 90 percent done with the biggest expansion and renovation in company history, which means you’ll find an exceptional quantity and variety of goodies: local organic produce, groceries, bulk foods, meat and seafood, as well as a comprehensive selection of supplements, homeopathic remedies and handcrafted gifts.

“We’re finishing up the full kitchen, and once we’ve had some time to play in it a little and get food service up and running, we’ll be ready for a big celebration,” says co-owner Paku Misra. “We’re still putting up some of the art and signage. But we’re almost there, and it feels amazing.”

The store’s freezer space has doubled, and produce, dairy and grocery departments are each 50 percent bigger. Regulars have watched the whole process unfold, as the store has stayed open for business throughout the process.

“Every week, we’ve had new products being added, so people see changes every time, and we’re feeling proud,” says Misra. “Most of all, proud of the team. They’ve worked so hard to keep us on point with the best service and the best products, even on the tougher, louder days of the process.”

The team will soon undoubtedly be taste-testing things as the new kitchen for grab-n-go goodies (affordable, healthy take-out plates are part of the plan) and cafe and juice bar items gets up to speed and the menu grows. When every last detail is ready, expect a grand fiesta sometime in the next few weeks: vendors, tasty samples, gift baskets, live entertainment.
