3rd Annual Catskill Film and Video Festival

Saturday’s screenings include the Best of Reel Teens- international, award winning shorts by teen-agers; Best of the Athens Animation Festival–short works with a social message from around the world; Cine Haiti-reportage and fresh fiction films from this tiny island with big stories; Othello, a modern adaptation of the Bard’s tale set in New York City by actors and directors from the New School.

Sunday’s highlights include Rappin for Godot an existential parody performed by stand-up comic poet/musicians Mikhail Horowitz & Gilles Malkine Intelligence a short feature by Academy Award winning screenwriter David Smilow. Documentaries include Isabel Barton’s, The Making of Chief, the story of a contemporary tribal leader’s journey in Angel Falls, Venezuela and Observations, the 2012 US Artists award winner by Jacqueline Goss, based on the crew at the Mt. Washington weather observatory where staff have taken hourly readings of the extreme wind (231 mph!) and temperature since 1932. Goss is also guest curating a selection of work from Bard College’s Department of Film and Electronic Arts. Other highlights include video portraits by David McDonald; Taha Awadallah’s memoir of his mother’s life in Palestine and recent music videos by last year’s festival favorite Danielle Katvan. Each screening is followed by a talk with the filmmakers, curators, actors, directors, animators and screenwriters.

Curated by UK filmmaker/producer/director/actor Andrea Cunliffe, the Catskill Film and Video Festival opens the long vacant Union Mills Building at 361 Main Street, a historic factory built during the US Civil War to make fabric for Union soldiers’ uniforms. This series is presented by Masters on Main Street in concert with a storefront exhibition, The Glow Show with Main Street tours at 6:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday at 8 PM, party with the filmmakers, artists, curators and neighbors starting off with a live performance by Hudson’s preeminent hiphop star Young Paris.
