The day begins with an opening ceremony when local elected officials will paint the eyes of the dragon to mark the beginning of the races, which commence directly afterwards. While the Dragon Boat Races proceed on the Hudson River, the Festival runs along the shore. Master Kwan returns for the third year to perform the Lion Dance for the opening and closing ceremonies.
