“Dracula” at Widow Jane Mine

It’s not quite October yet, let alone Halloween, but Dracula is about to emerge from his coffin in Rosendale: Tireless local theatrical troupe Theatre on the Road will present the classic horror tale “Dracula” in the perfectly creepy Window Jane Mine in Rosendale from September 30 through October 2.

Dramatized by Hamilton Deanne and John L. Balderson by arrangement with Samuel French and adapted from the Bram Stoker novel, this is the original Broadway production that premiered in 1927 with Bela Lugosi and was revived in 1997 with Frank Langella as Dracula. “In the story, Lucy, whose father is in charge of an English asylum, has been attacked by a mysterious illness. Dr. Van Helsing believes Lucy is the victim of a vampire—a certain Count Dracula,” reads Theatre on the Road’s synopsis. “Renfield, an inmate, suffers from delusions and is under the spell of the Count. Will he be found and finally laid to rest?”

The cast features a roster of accomplished actors, all of whom live and work in the Hudson Valley: David Smilo as Dracula, Nanette Ayers as Van Helsing, Zach Gibson as Jonathan Harker, Dan Anderson as Dr. Seward, David Britton as Renfield, Caitlin Connelly as Lucy, Ellen Pavloff as Miss Wells and Frank Marquette as Butterworth. John Piergiorgi will provide sound effects and lighting and Sue Regan will stage manage. Kristen Marquette, Theatre on the Road’s co-owner, will provide costumes and styling.
