Long Table Harvest has created a new food program that plans to deliver the surplus produce from local farms to people who don’t have access to healthy food. 7,000 Columbia county residents are food-insecure. 10,000 residents live below 200 percent of the federal poverty line. The farm-food rescue program serves Columbia county—where Long Table Harvest has access to more than 52,000 acres of farm land and a variety of local produce.
Long Table Harvest is an effort to bring the average 20 percent of produce that doesn’t make it off the farm to people in need. They have created an IndieGoGo Campaign, seeking $20,000 in donations.
