The diner is a lovable fixture of classic American culture that knows just how to capture our hearts, thanks to its bottomless coffee refills, cast of homespun personalities, dependable service (in many cases, 24/7), and the bedrock tenet that the turkey club will always be there waiting for you. So it only feels natural that it should be there for you during the holidays, too.
For that reason, the Red Line Diner in Fishkill will be breaking out the tinsel and holly this holiday season, offering specials on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. The Vanikiotis family, who owns and operates the Red Line Diner, as well as Poughkeepsie’s Table Talk and Lagrange’s The Daily Planet, has been in the diner business for over 37 years. “We’re at the diner 7 days a week,” Roseanne Vanikiotis says. “This is our life.” So it goes without saying that they know how to make the place feel homey. If you can’t be with family for the holidays, Red Line is a great place to be.
On Thanksgiving, you’ll find the traditional holiday fare, complete with turkey, trimmings, and a classic slice of pumpkin or apple pie. (You can even pick up a whole turkey and sides, if you’re heading over to your aunt’s and sorely in need of a pinch-hitter.)
Christmas Eve will see the return of the Red Line’s annual Feast of the Seven Fishes—an Italian-American tradition that will feature a four-course pre-fixe of seafood specialties. And the duet of New Year’s holidays will provide equally celebratory menu offerings like prime rib, filet mignon, and lobster.
The Vanikiotis family’s dedication to their customers doesn’t only make an appearance during the holidays. At any of their three restaurants, you can find creative daily specials and a focus on local, seasonally available ingredients every day of the year.
