A Special Reception with Joseph McGill of the Slave Dwelling Project

Contrary to the popular belief that slavery was practiced exclusively in the South, Northern states were also dependent on enslaved African labor in the 17th and 18th centuries. A descendant of slaves, Joseph McGill travels the country staying overnight in historic slave dwellings to bring awareness to their existence, history, and need for preservation. Historic Huguenot Street and SUNY New Paltz are proudly co-hosting his first visit to the Hudson Valley. At our reception, he will share his initial thoughts about this transformational experience and talk about his groundbreaking work.
