This reading and discussion series is the start of a city-wide celebration honoring Frederick Douglass’s visit to Newburgh in 1870. Why the Barbershop:The barbershop is the place where men and boys discuss an array of topics neither restricted nor censored. The public will read and discuss three short readings by African American authors on the topic of civic engagement.
