Bowie Birthday Bash Returns to Woodstock
David Bowie

“After an unplanned hiatus,” says local musician, author, and overall man on the Hudson Valley scene Robert Burke Warren, “we all feel the need to rock.” And rock there will be on March 19 at 7pm, when the singer and guitarist, and some hand-picked friends, bring Warren’s beloved David Bowie birthday bash back to Colony in Woodstock for the third time—an appropriate spot, since the musical giant loved Woodstock and spent his final years in the immediate area.

As in the event’s preceding iterations, Warren and his band will perform intimate, acoustic-based versions of Bowie songs from across the Thin White Duke’s storied career. But for the 2022 edition, they’ll also be delivering a full set of rocking Bowie electric selections. Warren’s cohorts in covers this year include pianist and vocalist Dennis Yerry, bassist and vocalist Mark Lerner (Life in a Blender), percussionist Peter Newell (The Trapps), drummer Lukas Lerner (Surmiser), electric guitarist Josh Roy Brown (The Trapps), and vocalists Nancy Howell (Rosine) and Calder Mansfield. As a bonus, there will be special appearances by Rhett Miller (Old 97’s) and Frank McGinnis (Frankie and His Fingers).

Let the children boogie. And if you’re considering joining them, get your tickets early: All of Warren’s past Bowie tributes at the venue have sold out.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $28 at the door. For further information, visit the Colony website.
