The idea of music on a mountaintop sounds like a great way to welcome the holiday season, and the opportunity to do just that is on the near horizon here in the Hudson Valley: On November 26, the Windham Festival Chamber Orchestra will perform a special Thanksgiving weekend concert presented by the Catskill Mountain Foundation at the Doctorow Center for the Arts in Hunter.

Under the direction of composer/conductor Robert Manno, will embark on a program that includes Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “Variants on Dives and Lazarus” for strings and harp; Sir Edward Elgar’s “Sospiri” for strings and harp; Claude Debussy’s “Danses Sacrée et Profane” for harp and string orchestra; Robert Manno’s “Petit Voyage en Nostalgie” for flute, harp, and string orchestra; Howard Hanson’s serenade for flute, harp, and string orchestra; the premiere of Jacqueline Kerrod’s new work for harp and string orchestra; Jean Sibelius’s elegie from “King Christian Suite II”; and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis.”

The Windham Festival Chamber is comprised of the finest musicians from the New York area and includes current and former members of the MET Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the New Jersey Symphony, the New York City Opera Orchestra, the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and numerous other exalted New York area ensembles.
