Sharpe will speak on “stillness” in contemporary Black life, both as an artistic term (still life, still photography, etc.) and as a term of lived experience, tracing “stillness” as it relates to and continues to be shaped by the long duration of slavery.
Sharpe is Professor in the Department of Humanities at York University and author of In the Wake: On Blackness and Being and Monstrous Intimacies: Making Post-Slavery Subjects.
