Ice storms are destructive, unpredictable, and on the rise due to climate change. U.S. Forest Service research ecologist Lindsey Rustad will discuss how ice storms impact forest ecosystems– altering everything from the composition of trees to water quality. Rustad simulated experimental ice storms at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire to better understand their role in sculpting forests. The hauntingly beautiful and ecologically important study was profiled in National Geographic.
