The 170th Dutchess County Fair runs August 25th - 30th. The Dutchess County Fair is the second largest agricultural county Fair in New York State. Livestock exhibitors bring thousands of dairy cows, beef cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits, hogs, llamas, alpacas and horses to the liveliest spot on the fairgrounds, Livestock Hill! Livestock judging happen daily. The 4-H, an integral part of the Fair’s livestock shows, includes a costume contest for kids and their animals. The Oval hosts the Salute to Agriculture and Dairy Birthing Center, vegetable and crop exhibits, equestrian events and tractor pulls.

The Horticultural building has a “Lights, Camera, Action!” theme this year. See hundreds of horticultural, vegetable and field crop entries vying for ribbons.

There’s a new Grandstand Performances nightly, plus, see plenty of homegrown entertainment at the Search for Talent tent daily except Sunday. Wildman Jack and Vocal Trash take the stage during the week. On Sunday, see the NYS Fiddle Contest at 3:30pm.

Experience “'thrill a minute” excitement on the Midway rides and at carnival games. This year’s lineup includes the classics, but new rides such as Khaos, Sizzler and Charlie Chopper add new flavor to the thrills.

Enjoy free shows and attractions all day long, such as fair favorite Hilby the Skinny German Juggler, Commerford’s Pony Hitch, Rosaire’s Racing Pigs, and the Two-byTwo Petting Zoo. Stop by the Century Museum antique village, one-room schoolhouse and newly restored train station.

Fair food is the main reason many people look forward to the Fair! Snack on fried veggies, corn on the cob, French fries, and fried dough. Bite into a bacon, macaroni & cheese corn dog, a gyro, garlic mozzarella steak or meatball sub, or a Prime Rib Sandwich for dinner. Afterward, enjoy the taste of churros, taffy, cream puffs, homemade ice cream, and chocolate flavored Kettlecorn!

The Harvest Demonstration Kitchen hosts demonstrators and lecturers on the culinary arts. Bring in their best pasta salad recipe to be judged on presentation and taste on Wednesday, August 26th at 6pm. An “Iron Chef” cooking battle between the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department and the Poughkeepsie Fire Department takes place at high noon on Saturday, August 29th.
