One of Chronogram’s favorite local musicians is Woodstock’s Elizabeth Mitchell. She initially came on the scene as a member of the excellent ’90s indie band Ida, and has since become one of today’s most redeeming makers of music for children, making her a natural choice as a beloved headliner at Maverick Concerts' special Young People’s Concert events. Her next such visit to the historic music site will be this Saturday, July 19.

Mitchell’s seventh album, Blue Clouds (her fourth for the legendary Smithsonian Folkways label), was nominated for a Grammy award this year. She has been has been playing at Maverick on Saturday mornings for several years running, with concerts for kids featuring appealing and heartfelt songs by artists ranging from Woody Guthrie to Bob Marley and the Velvet Underground; she even taped a video at the Maverick hall for Smithsonian Folkways.

Here’s a cute vid of Mitchell, Jay Ungar, Mike & Ruthy, Daniel Littleton, and some other local friends playing “Froggie Went a-Courtin’” from Blue Clouds:

Elizabeth Mitchell & Family will perform at Maverick Concerts in Woodstock on July 19 at 11am. Tickets are $5 (children under 16 are free). For more information, call (845) 679-8217 or visit www.maverickconcerts.org.
