Earlier this week we covered this Sunday’s local appearance by the Band’s Garth Hudson. Well, right here, let’s talk about the Band’s stylistic heirs, the Felice Brothers, who’ll perform a special Thanksgiving Eve homecoming concert at the Bearsville Theater on November 21.

Formed in their local hometown hamlet of Palenville in 2006 by the nucleus of brothers Ian, James, and Simone (since departed for a solo career) Felice, the globetrotting country-folk rockers haven’t performed in these parts for some time, so no doubt the Bearsville homecoming will be a big night.

Despite the frequent comparison of their music to that of the Band and Bob Dylan, accordionist James Felice maintains the similarities were never intentional. “We never tried to get into that world, and we never felt like part of that scene,” he told me when I interviewed him for the September 2016 issue of Chronogram. “Yeah, we’re from the same area, but we had as much exposure to that music as anyone else our age.”

Here’s the boys’ 2008 hit “Frankie’s Gun”:

The Felice Brothers will perform at the Bearsville Theater in Bearsville, New York, on November 21 at 7pm. Tickets are $25—$5. For more information, call (845) 679-4406 or visit http://www.bearsvilletheater.com/.
