September brings a cornucopia of enticing events in the Hudson Valley. Here’s a handful, just for you.

MUSIC

Deerhunter in Kingston Atlanta-based experimental indie pop band Deerhunter haven’t performed in the Hudson Valley since 2009’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Monticello. But on September 15 at 8pm, the highly influential outfit will make their long-awaited local return with a blow-out appearance in BSP’s massive Back Room Theater. Tickets are $25 and $30. http://bspkingston.com/

LITERATURE

Mueller Report Reading in Poughkeepsie

Now here’s a way to drive a serious point home and have a little fun doing it. At the historic Poughkeepsie Trolley Barn on September 13 from 9:30am to 10pm and September 14 from 10am to 10pm, local people from academic, faith, theatrical, and political circles will read the entire Mueller Report aloud. There will occasional breaks for food and music, during the longer redacted portions of the report. Volunteers are invited to read and perform music, and asked to bring food. https://www.facebook.com/events/391855854645881/

MUSIC

Mary Gauthier in Rosendale Nashville folksinger Mary Gauthier is a long-time Rosendale Cafe favorite, always drawing a rapt and appreciative house whenever she drops by—which she’ll do once again on September 13 at 8pm. Gauthier’s newest album in 2018’s Rifles & Rosary Beads, which was cowritten with US war veterans and their families. Tickets are $25. http://www.rosendalecafe.com/

ART

Art Walk in Kingston

The art scene in Kingston just keeps getting better and better, and on September 21 and 22 the annual Art Walk Kingston event returns to help it grow. For 2019 “grow” is certainly the operative word for the event, which brings with it an astounding 140 participating artists and 20 galleries. Paintings, photographs, drawings, and sculptures are just some of the mediums that will be on display at home studios and galleries across the city, while performers, musicians, and other experiential events are also scheduled during the weekend. https://www.facebook.com/artwalkkingston/

FESTIVALS

British Car Show in Woodstock

One of our area’s great recurring traditions is the annual Woodstock British Car Show, which rolls onto the lawn on the Woodstock Playhouse on September 22 from 9am to 3pm. For the eye candy-filled event, over 100 classic British cars will be on display (British motorcycles and pre-1980 Swedish and European cars are invited as well; vehicles must be registered prior to the show, see website). Food and refreshments will be offered, and there will be a live 1950s-style music and dance performance. https://woodstockbritishcarshow.com/
