Francofonia offers a bold take on European culture and history through the lens of the Louvre museum in World War II. Neither documentary nor fiction, the film intertwines several narratives: Sokurov talking with a ship captain moving artifacts during a storm; Marianne roaming the Louvre with Napoleon; and the true friendship of the wartime curator and the Nazis’ head of artistic preservation. The film will be introduced by Charles Arndt (Russian Studies) and a post-screening discussion will be led by James Mundy (The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center).
