Jazzstock promoters/musicians Teri Roiger and John Menegon's Jazz at the Senate Garage series continues this Thursday with an appearance by Giacomo Gates with the Don Miller Trio.

Gates is a cool-school classic jazz singer who’s renowned for his smoky timbre, aerobatic scatting, and instrument-imitating vocalese. A jazz educator in Connecticut, he studied with the great Sarah Vaughn and has released seven albums as a leader, the latest being 2015’s Everything is Cool. Kerhonkson bassist Miller has spent much of the last four decades performing, recording, and touring with such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Ramsey Lewis, George Benson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lou Donaldson, Clark Terry, Nat Adderly, Larry Coryell, Mark Murphy, Freddy Cole, Slide Hampton, Frank Foster, David Amram, Dakota Staton, and literally too many others to list.

Here, Gates swings “Lady Be Good” live in 2013:

Giacomo Gates and the Don Miller Trio will perform at the Senate Garage in Kigston, New York, this Thursday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15. Jazzstock shows take place at the venue every other Thursday of the month. For more information, call (914) 388-7357 or visit http://www.jazzstock.com/index/.
