“Great Gatsby” Radio Play in Rosendale | Theater | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine
From July 28-31, the Rosendale Theatre will present “The Great Gatsby,” a live radio play based on the classic novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald’s stylish, classic Jazz Age story centers on self-made Long Island millionaire Jay Gatsby and his pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a young woman he’d loved in his youth. Directed by Ann Citron in a production presented as a 1940s-era radio broadcast complete with sound effects, an ensemble of six actors will bring more than two dozen characters from the novel to the stage. The cast includes Hudson Valley actors Adam Liebowitz, Brian Mathews, Rick Meyer, Janet E. Nurre, Ross Pasquale, and Lydia Pidlusky. Rosendale percussionist Fre Atlast will perform live “foley” (sound effects) and with a swing band featuring her fellow locals Debbie Lan, Lori Morris, Rich DeCrosta, and Tim Allen.

For the performances, the theater will seek to recreate the world of a 1920s Prohibition-era speakeasy, with wine served in teacups a la the clandestine method of the time. Audience members are encouraged to add to the fun and atmosphere by dressing for the era.

“The Great Gatsby: A Live Radio Play” will be performed at the Rosendale Theatre in Rosendale on July 28, 29, 30, and 31. The shows on July 28-30 will take place at 7:30pm; the show on July 31 will start at 4pm. Tickets are $95 for VIP cabaret seating (table for four); $25 per person for VIP cabaret seating; $20 for general seating; and $18 for members general seating.
