The Butterfly House of Hawthorne Valley Farm’s Farmscape Ecology Program
On July 2, July 23, and August 23, Hawthorne Valley Farm’s Farmscape Ecology Program will host visitors for its free Summer Field Days series.

The three-day event will feature butterfly house and native plant garden tours, a native plant nursery, and a variety of pop-up displays and hands-on activities for all ages, such as mammal skull and insect identification, an historical weather station display, and a 3D diorama of the Columbia County landscape with projected stories.

Organized since 1971 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the 900-acre farm includes such initiatives as an early childhood-through-grade 12 Waldorf school; on-farm education programs; a full line of organic/natural foods and a grocery store; an organic/biodynamic creamery, an organic bakery, and a fermented products line; a 300-plus-member organic/biodynamic CSA; social, ecological, and cultural research groups; teacher education programs; arts initiatives, and more.

Staffed by the Farmscape Ecology Program’s research scientists and interns, and Summer Field Days offer attendees an opportunity to learn about the ecological and cultural landscape of Columbia County. The program will take be presented at the farm’s Creekhouse facility. There is limited onsite parking, but the Creekhouse is an easy walk from the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School parking lot.

The Farmscape Ecology Program’s Summer Field Days will take place at Hawthorne Valley Farm in Ghent on July 2, July 23, and August 23 from noon to 4pm. The event is free, and no registration is required. For more information, see the program’s website.
