If your green thumb has been itching to get out and enjoy the springtime planting season to its fullest, Angry Orchard is throwing an Arbor Day giveaway you definitely won’t want to miss. Next Friday, April 29 from 12pm to 6pm, head out to Angry Orchard’s historic 60-acre orchard in Walden for its fourth annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway.

Since 2015, the Walden Orchard has been known as the site of Angry Orchard’s pioneering work  to revive the bittersweet heritage apple varieties that long ago made the Hudson Valley a famous cider-making region. With over 15,000 cider trees currently growing at the Orchard today, it only makes sense that the Angry Orchard team is celebrating everyone’s favorite tree-planting holiday by sharing a bounty of apple saplings that will grow and fruit around the region for years to come.

The 250 coveted ready-to-plant Gala or Fuji apple saplings will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis to any visitor who makes a $25 purchase (excluding tours) at the Cider House. If you’d like to make the most of your trip and pick up more than one sapling, Angry Orchard will also have additional trees available for purchase for $20 each.

This year, Angry Orchard is also taking its Arbor Day celebrations up a notch and offering cider fans the chance to name one of the trees in the orchard. To submit your idea for a name, simply fill out the entry form before Sunday, April 24 at 11:59pm. Four names will then be selected by Angry Orchard and will open to final voting on Instagram on both the National and Walden pages on Tuesday, April 26. The winning name will be announced on Arbor Day on Instagram along with a custom plaque beside the tree flaunting its new name.

Since no trip to the Orchard would be complete without a glass of crisp cider straight from the source, come make an afternoon of it and post up at the Cider House (or sprawl out on the lawn if the weather is nice) and sample some of Angry Orchard’s limited release specialty ciders on draft, grab lunch from the in-house kitchen, or fill up a growler or two to-go.

In the same spirit of giving back to the planet that Arbor Day is known for, Angry Orchard will be donating $1 for every pint of cider sold during April from its Benevolence Cider Tap at the Walden Taproom to Parks & Trails New York, the leading statewide advocate for protecting, expanding, and enhancing New York’s parks and trails.

Angry Orchard's Arbor Day Tree Giveaway will take place Friday, April 29 from 12pm to 6pm at the Walden Orchard at 2241 Albany Post Road, Walden, NY 12586. The 250 ready-to-plant apple saplings will be available on a first-come first-serve basis with a $25 purchase, excluding tours.
