Hot Sardines Heat Up Bard Spiegeltent

The Hot Sardines
  • The Hot Sardines
New York retro jazz band the Hot Sardines made for some scorched planks on the dance floor of Bard SummerScape’s Spiegeltent, and tomorrow night they’ll be back to get all you hip Hudson Valley hot’cha hoofers kicking up your heels once again.

Formed by band leader and pianist Evan Palazzo and vocalist Elizabeth Bougerol in 2007 over a shared love of 1920s and ’30s jazz and pop, the pair began recruiting like-minded young players via Craigslist and soon became the talk and toast of the Lower East Side and Brooklyn scenes; from there it was onto a major slot at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing festival, 17 sold-out nights at Joe’s Pub, international tours, and an album deal with Decca/Universal Music Classics.

Here’s the band performing the peppy standard “Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen”:

The Hot Sardines will perform at the Bard College SummerScape Spiegeltent in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, on August 17 at 8:30pm. Tickets are $40. For more information, call (845) 758-7900 or visit http://fishercenter.bard.edu/.
