Hudson Community Book Group
Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, by Kate DiCamillo
Wednesdays, 6 – 7:30pm

September 10 – December 17

In collaboration with Hudson City School District, for students and their parents. A free copy of the book is provided for every student.

The group will read Flora and Ulysses, a genre-breaking novel by master storyteller Kate DiCamillo, which won the 2014 Newbery Medal and a 2013 Parents’ Choice Award for Fiction. It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is the just the right person to step in and save him. A laugh-out-loud story filled with eccentric, endearing characters and featuring an exciting new format — a novel interspersed with comic-style graphic sequences and full-page illustrations by K. G. Campbell.
