Hudson Hil's in Cold Spring: Weekday Brunch review

A week ago I went on a day trip to Cold Spring. Hudson Hil’s Market & Cafe invited me to taste their lunch and brunch menu. They are open from 8am to 4pm every day, except Tuesday, and you can order breakfast all day. (I always appreciate that!) I walked to Hudson Hil’s from the Metro North train station as it was just a few blocks away.

The menu includes such temptations as: Hudson Hil’s grilled cheese with gouda and granny smith apples, chocolate babka french toast, biscuits and gravy, eggs creole, and a good selection of sandwiches and salads. My friend Rosemary started by ordering a Bloody Mary. Our server mentioned that the Salmon BLT was a popular sandwich so I ordered that. My friend ordered the Cobb salad, and her husband had the warm focaccia sandwich. My Salmon BLT was delicious. I love the sauce, and I especially love the homemade potato chips. Warning: these chips are so good, you may find yourself eating them non-stop before even taking a bite out of your sandwich. Rosemary loved the Cobb salad, and was very satisfied. Fortunately the light lunch, left us with room for dessert.

Hudson Hil’s bakes all their desserts in-house, and we were very excited by the size of the slice of carrot cake that Rosemary ordered. She immediately insisted I eat half of it, as I only ordered a raspberry cookie. Her husband was very impressed with the flour-less chocolate cake pronouncing it as a “solid” cake, which is high praise from him since I know him, and he is a picky consumer. Even the coffee was really good. We ordered decaf, and my friend commented that “If this is really decaf, this is the best decaf I’ve ever had!” Our server told us that they get the coffee from Bear Mountain Coffee Roasters. I’d highly recommend a stop at Hudson Hil’s if you are in the Cold Spring area. The restaurant was very busy during lunch on Wednesday. Before our lunch, I explored a few different shops along Main Street in Cold Spring. Will share photos on the Hudson Valley Good Stuff Facebook page, and blog about those businesses soon.
