Originally the Federal era home of prominent lawyer and politician, James Vanderpoel, a prominent lawyer and politician in Columbia County and his family. The property is now an exhibit space featuring galleries of paintings and decorative arts from the CCHS permanent collection. The historical house features new exhibits focusing on furniture and early interpretations of the Vanderpoel building, built around 1819 in the Federal-style. The home is used as an example of the style that was popular during the 1780-1830 period, which is known for its straight lines, smooth surfaces,and contrasting inlays and veneers.
