Some say the United State’s greatest gift to the world was jazz. Its infinite variety, dumbfounding complexity, and rich history captivates fans, sometimes to point of obsession. When six world-class jazz musicians arrive in Poughkeepsie for the 15th annual Jazz in the Valley music festival, there is no doubt the music community will be stirred. Legendary bassist Ron Carter, who played with jazz giants like Miles Davis and Bill Evans, will perform, along with the Bill Charlap Trio, saxophonists Javon Jackson and Tia Fuller, percussionist Steve Kroon, the Arturo O’Farrill Octet, and others. Gates open at 11am on Sunday, August 16 in Waryas Park. (845) 384-6350; Jazzinthevalley.org.
