A missed opportunity here: New Paltz supports 2 (!) record stores and 2 (!) bookstores. What makes this even more notable is that they are all within one block of each other--on lower Main Street. In fact, each can see the other right across the street. Barner Books and Inquiring Minds. Rhino Records and Jack's Rhythms. And so what we have in New Paltz is a scene that your article didn't get at. Yin-yang, east-west, sweet-sour, Macy's-Gimbels. This is friendly competition with big pay-off for readers & music lovers. You may have a favorite, but you go to both--and delight in their differences. The sum is greater than the parts, and New Paltz thrives on it.
