Kairos: A Consort of Singers

Bach Concert Series. J.S. Bach’s Cantata 22, Jesus nahm zu ihn die Zwölfe was written as an audition for the position of Kapellmeister, or music director, at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, a position the great composer would hold for the rest of his life. The text of the piece refers to the preparation by Jesus's disciples for their fateful journey to Jerusalem. Kairos will also perform an a cappella motet by Johannes Brahms, Warum ist das Licht gegeben. This is a work strongly influenced by Bach, with poignant text taken from the Book of Job and the Lamentations of Jeremiah.
