Living in the Light of Divine Sanity:
A Retreat for People of Color, with Gina Sharpe
August 31, 2012, 3:00pm - September 2, 2012, 3:00pm
at The Garrison Institute

Open to all people who self-identify as people of color

The times in which we are living seem especially stressful – economically, politically and culturally. The ways in which we use technology, or technology uses us, can be added stressors. As people of color, the institutionalized oppression and microagressions we experience can lead to even greater pain. What resources can we access in the midst of our daily lives, to help us remember to live into a larger dimension than the small body of fear and despair which often drives our hearts and minds? How can we live in the light of divine sanity rather than under the spell of habit and cultural beliefs that drive separation rather than connection? This weekend will offer tools for reflection and resources for living sanely.

All people who self-identify as people of color are invited into this unique opportunity to experience spiritual community. With a space of ease and support to meditate together and deepen inner freedom, we will explore cultivating wisdom, compassion, a clear mind, an open heart, and the possibility of experiencing greater happiness and less suffering in our lives.

Gina Sharpe is a co-founder and Guiding Teacher of New York Insight Meditation Center. She has been teaching workshops and retreats since 1995 and has taught at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society, the Garrison Institute, and in several other venues around the country. Gina helped to initiate retreats for People of Color at Insight Meditation Society and has been teaching such retreats at other venues, including Spirit Rock Meditation Center and Garrison Institute.
