Megaphone: The Négritude Movement

MEGAPHONE will present a program on the négritude Movement, a grouping of Caribbean and African writers, artists, and intellectuals influenced by Surrealism. Presenters will read translations of the work of these francophone poets and will discuss the movement in the varied contexts of Surrealism, Afrocentric arts, and the broader history of poetry. Workshop participants will engage with the work of Aimé Césaire, Léopold Séd Senghor and Léon Damas, among other négritude poets, and create work in response. The program will conclude with a reading of the poetry generated in the workshop. Supported by Poets & Writers.
