Metal, Acid, Line: Etchings from the Loeb

Spanning time and geography, this focused exhibition features more than a dozen prints from the permanent collection chosen for their common medium: etching. Etching, a printmaking process in which artists create images on metal plates with the aid of chemical action--traditionally, acid--began being used by artists around 1500 and continues in use today. This selection, co-curated with Christina Tenaglia, Art Department, Vassar College, was made in conjunction with Art 209, a studio course that teaches the fundamentals of intaglio printmaking including the techniques of etching and drypoint as well as aquatint, engraving, embossing, and stippling.
