This lecture will examine the historical and global connections of Mizrahi Feminisms from the late 19th century to date. We will try to understand the dialectical tension within which the political claims of Mizrahi Feminisms are made: between a struggle to belong and radical social criticism, between cultural renaissance and westernization, between class and culture, and between a class struggle and attempts to be accepted to the elites. Dr. Yali Hashash is a Mizrahi queer feminist scholar whose work focuses on the social history of 19th and 20th century Israel-Palestine and the Middle East.
