Saxophone Quartet
During the early 19th century the gardener at Montgomery Place was Alexander Gilson, an African-American slave who, after being freed, stayed on as head gardener; he eventually opened up his own gardening business. The music of Newburgh, New York composer Ulysses J. Alsdorf, whose grandfather was also a freed slave, was chosen to observe the 1909 Henry Hudson-Robert Fulton Celebration. His work will do the same for our event. Guests must bring their own lawn chairs. (in case of inclement weather, concert will be held in the Montgomery Place Coach House) first 50 guests admitted.
