Pianist Pedja Muzijevic made his Carnegie Hall debut playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 in C-major with the Oberlin Symphony; has given solo recitals at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and such important music festivals as Tanglewood and Spoleto; and has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Dresden Philharmonic, and many others. On January 18, however, the Bosnian-born maestro will give a free performance at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts in Woodstock, following the opening reception for the exhibition “Bolton Brown: Strength and Solitude.”

Muzijevic’s repertoire is strikingly deep, taking in such divergent composers as Schoenberg, Scarlatti, and Schumann. For the Kleinert date, which is being held in conjunction with the center’s display of the lithographs and paintings of Byrdcliffe artist colony cofounder Bolton Coit Brown, the pianist will perform, most appropriately, Mussorgsky’s layered masterwork Pictures at an Exhibition. Muzijevic chose the piece for this engagement because of its conceptual foundation: the internal experiences of a viewer moving from picture to picture in an exhibition hall. Composed in 1874, the composition consists of 10 separate movements, each representing a different contemplative state brought about by an image in the exhibition.

Pedja Muzijevic will perform the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts in Woodstock on January 18 at 6:30, immediately following the opening reception of “Bolton Brown: Strength and Solitude.” Admission is free. (The exhibition is on view until March 2.) For more information, call (845) 679-2079 or visit
