Myth Making in Louise’s Garden

the afternoon lazy in fallen leaves

trees that gave are still giving.
Louise in her garden nourishing

colors to bloom. it is the season
for deep dark purples and golden orbs

among reddish pinks, splashes
of burnt orange and variegated ochre,

a stalk of luminous blue here
and there for one’s eyes to touch,

greens turning beige or salmon red.

a ripening apple hangs

for Louise von Weise
