Family-friendly events are planned throughout the afternoon and evening:
From 4 – 6 pm, costumed children and families will gather to Trick-or-Treat on Huguenot Street, visiting our National Historic Landmark District’s historic houses and meeting characters from American history along the way. The entire street will be decorated, including a campfire, for an immersive Halloween experience.
A new activity debuting this year is the New Paltz Monster Sprint, a one mile race on Main Street. Beginning at the Station One Firehouse on Plattekill Avenue at 5:45 pm, runners will race to the New Paltz Middle School at Main Street and Manheim Boulevard to join the annual Halloween Parade. The race will end at P&G’s Restaurant at Main and North Front Streets. All proceeds from the $10 entry fee will go to benefit Family of New Paltz. Interested runners should contact the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce to register. Winners will be awarded.
At 6 pm, the Lions’ Club annual Halloween Parade will take off from the New Paltz Middle School. A tradition for over 40 years, the festive parade will make its way singing, dancing, and drumming down Main Street, culminating at the Station One Firehouse for apples and sweet treats.
Following the parade, The Bakery on North Front Street will serve complimentary hot cider, cocoa, and pumpkin bread at its annual Night of 100 Pumpkins. The Bakery’s all-ages pumpkin carving contest has been a draw for over a decade, bringing out some of the most unique and outrageous carvings and designs.
Back on Huguenot Street, pre-registered guests will embark on tours that uncover haunting legends from the street’s history, hourly from 7 – 10 pm. The organization’s Haunted Huguenot Street tours have been an annual tradition since the 90’s.
