New York City Ballet principal dancers Sara Mearns and Jared Angle will perform at the Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater on Saturday, November 8, 7:00 pm. Mearns and Angle will perform two pas de deux: one from act II of Swan Lake; and the duet from Peter Martins’ Barber Violin Concerto. The event will also include interviews with the pair moderated by Dance Department chair John Meehan, and film footage of the dancers. The performance will be followed by a reception.

This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Email dancetix@vassar.edu or call the box office (845) 437-5541 to reserve.

Mearns is best known for her role as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake. Other major works include A Dancer’s Dream with the New York Philharmonic and Ocean’s Kingdom with original music by Paul McCartney, as well as a new work by Justin Peck that was commissioned for Fall for Dance 2013. Mearns has worked with world-renowned choreographers such as Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Benjamin Millepied, Susan Stroman, and Peter Martins. She has been nominated for a 2014 Bessie Award for outstanding performer.

Angle began his dance training at age six at the Allegheny Ballet Academy in Pennsylvania. He entered the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet, in the fall of 1996. Angle was promoted to principal dancer in 2005 following a performance during a visit to Denmark for the reopening of the Tivoli Concert Hall.

This performance is sponsored by the Dance Department with generous support from Mary Sharp Cronson ’47.
