Nina Lipkowitz: Pixels & Poultry

Nina Lipkowitz, will be the featured artist at 510 Warren Street Gallery for the month of December. She will be exhibiting two bodies of work, varied in technique: whimsical, watercolor portraits of roosters and archival, pigment prints made from her playful and lyrical iPad paintings. The roosters with their piercing eyes and cock of their heads are imbued with almost human qualities. Painted with watercolor and pen & ink, these wonderful farm fowl are present with all their jittery movements and gloriously feathered patterns. Lipkowitz has used her medium well in serving the animated character of these familiar creatures. The iPad prints, “painted” with digit on screen using the Brushes iPad app are as much about movement, line, shape and color as are her watercolor roosters. These pigment prints are abstract images and are as filled with the joy of painting as are her analog subjects. Lipkowitz has created a vocabulary of shapes and lines that gesture and dance within the space of her back-lit tablet and translate into large, brilliantly colored lively and animated prints.
